Porto exists because we noticed something strange about personal finance software. Every product wants to connect to your bank, sync your transactions, categorize your spending, and automate your life. The pitch is always the same: give them access, and they'll handle it.

We think that's exactly backwards. The people who build real wealth aren't the ones who set up automations and forget. They're the ones who sit down regularly, look at the numbers, and think. They know what they own, what they owe, and roughly where things are heading. Not because an app told them — because they checked.

We call it the Porto Routine. Once a month, you open Porto. You enter your assets — checking, savings, investments, property, whatever you have. You enter your debts. You enter what you earned and what you spent. It takes about two minutes. And then you see a snapshot: your net worth, how it changed since last month, and where the movement came from.

That's it. That's the whole thing.

The Porto Routine is deliberately manual. Not because we couldn't build bank integrations — but because the act of entering the numbers yourself is the point. When you type in your savings balance, you know your savings balance. When you enter your credit card debt, you confront your credit card debt. Automation trades away that awareness for convenience, and we think that's a bad trade.

Most people don't need an app that tracks every coffee purchase. They need a quiet moment once a month to answer a simple question: am I moving in the right direction? Month after month, the pattern becomes clear. You start making adjustments — not because an algorithm told you to, but because you can see the trajectory yourself.

Porto is local-first and entirely private. Your data lives on your iPhone, in a SQLite database that never leaves the device. There are no accounts to create, no servers storing your net worth, no bank connections to configure or worry about being breached. We don't know what you own. We can't know. That's by design.

Porto is built independently, without external capital. There is no growth team optimizing your engagement, no monetization strategy built on your data, no investors pushing us to add features that serve their interests instead of yours. Porto will never sell your information because Porto never has your information.

We're building this for people who want to take their finances seriously but don't want their financial life inside someone else's infrastructure. For people who'd rather spend two minutes a month with real numbers than let an app guess on their behalf.
